Helen Chang is a graduate of the internationally-renowned Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance.  Mrs. Chang also received two Master of Music degrees in Music Education and Violin Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.  Her musical training began at the age of 5, studying piano with her mother.  She began studying violin at the age of 11 in her school orchestra.  Two years later, she joined the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, was a two-time Texas All-State Symphony Orchestra member, and enjoyed extraordinary musical and cultural experiences that included international travels and performances in chamber and orchestral festivals around the US and Europe.  These experiences further inspired her to pursue a career in music.

Mrs. Chang began her teaching career at Richardson Junior High School in Richardson, and was selected as Teacher of the Year.  She has also served as Orchestra Director at Frankford and Robinson Middle Schools in Plano, Dealey Montessori Academy in Dallas, Hutcheson and Nichols Junior High Schools in Arlington, The Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy in Grand Prairie, and in 2019, joined Killian Middle School in Lewisville.  Mrs. Chang enjoys the wonderful journeys of helping her students to be the best they can be!  Her orchestras have consistently won Sweepstakes Awards at the UIL Concert & Sight-reading Contests, and Best in Class and Grand Champion Awards at numerous orchestra contests and festivals.  Her professional affiliations include Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Orchestra Directors Association.

Mrs. Chang has had the opportunities to play in accompanying orchestras for Andrea Bocelli, Amy Grant, Josh Groban, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and has traveled extensively in Europe and Asia.

Beyond teaching, Mrs. Chang enjoys traveling and spending time with her wonderful husband, Tommy and their son, Ian.
