Welcome Concert

We can’t wait to start filling up the room with music.  Our theme for this year is “Rawk The Hawk,” and we’re excited to share some of your rock favorites with you all at our concerts.

We will have a Welcome Concert and kickoff meeting to start the year:

Welcome Concert

Hebron Auditorium

August 30

6:30pm

Please make every effort to attend, as we will be going over several pieces of important information for the school year.

Private Lessons

We will go over this in class, but if you would like to sign your student up for private lessons now, please sign up on the following form:

https://forms.gle/SoAKrKMyYjwUcV5K8

Private lessons are an essential component of musical and instrumental development.  Typically a private teacher will give your student an individual lesson in a private lesson room during class.  This allows for individual, focused attention to the needs of the student, allowing for them to learn the most advanced solo material, leading to the strongest and most consistent progress as a musician and musical athlete.  Lessons also give your student the greatest chance at higher musical achievement, such as placement in the All-Region Orchestra, and/or high achievement at the Solo & Ensemble Festival.

Some of the advantages of taking private lessons are:

Individualized instruction and attention to the specific needs of the student.

Unique solo music not available in class.

Unique music skills not available in class.

Advanced repertoire for Solo & Ensemble festivals.

Advanced skill and repertoire for All-Region and All-State auditions.

Our lesson teachers are highly qualified and experienced.  In addition to teaching, they regularly perform as professional musicians throughout the metroplex and beyond.  Their schedules may be extremely limited so lessons will be arranged on a first come/first served basis.  Private lesson scholarships are also available to students who are interested and qualified.

Lessons are highly encouraged for all members of the orchestra.  Our focus with the Hebron Orchestra is individual progress combined with team achievement.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions about our private lesson program.

New Assistant Director

We are so happy to welcome Mrs. Helen Chang to Hebron and our orchestra.  Some of the students have already had a chance to meet her, and we’ll be excited for her to meet everyone else soon.  You can read more about Mrs. Chang on our orchestra website: https://hebronorchestra.com/programs/

Program information will go out regularly to you as we start the year.  Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can help with anything.  We’re excited to see you all soon at the Welcome Concert!

Future Hawks Info!

Dear Future Hawks,

We are so excited to welcome you to Hebron next year! I get to enjoy teaching my favorite subject every day, but some of the benefits of music and orchestra are not so obvious. Many of our orchestra students reported enjoying orchestra for playing music with friends, our thrilling concerts, or incredible trips. These are great reasons to be in orchestra! Additionally there are a wealth of benefits from playing in orchestra that happen as we work together to learn the music and perform it for friends and family. Parents, you may be thinking ahead to their future even beyond high school. LISD’s vision is for all of our students to enjoy thriving, productive lives in a future they create. Music supports their ability to navigate the challenges of the future.

Many orchestra students participate in multiple school activities and challenging courses. Our orchestra members participate in football, volleyball, tennis, basketball, swim, theatre, choir, DECA, wrestling, and more. If you are anticipating a schedule conflict, our counselors are amazing at helping you find a way for you to still partcipate in orchestra. Please contact me or your counselor if you would like assistance with exploring your schedule options.

Concert Orchestra is recommended for ALL 9th graders, including advanced players. This class is designed to assist with the next level of high school. Concert Orchestra performs challenging music and has had several students selected to the All-Region High School Orchestras. If you are interested in auditioning for a higher level of orchestra, we will have an audition process beginning in April. If your student is selected to a higher level of orchestra, their school counselor will adjust their schedule.

Visit us at hebronorchestra.org for a special welcome video, and please contact us with any questions. We can’t wait for you to be a member of the Hebron Orchestra!

November Update

Dear Hawks,

The challenges we’re facing might make Thanksgiving more important than ever this year.  I asked the students what they’re thankful for, and by far the number one response was that they are thankful for their family.  Perhaps fitting to the times, students also wrote just “living” and “being alive”.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to still be a part of virtual learning during this pandemic. Some people are unable to be in school during this time since they don’t have the technology for virtual learning so I am thankful to be able to still learn, be a part of orchestra, and play basketball during this time.”

“practically everything: my family, friends, life, food, that I have a roof over my head, etc!”

“Anyone who has ever positively interacted with me because it has shaped who I am today.”

Class Performances

It’s a learning process.  In a typical year our orchestra produces and performs several major concerts and learns fifty or more unique pieces of repertoire.  As a necessary adjustment this year our learning paths have moved toward more guided individual learning, allowing our students to explore some of their personal musical interests while also developing their musical and technical skills.  As I’ve mentioned to the classes, it’s been a learning process for me also.  I’m pleased to share with you some videos we’ve made in class.  We will continue to develop our musical abilities, but in addition to this I am excited to learn alongside the students more about recording and filming the orchestra, and editing the videos.  We’ll continue to share as we’re able to improve our cinematic abilities.

T-Shirt Uniform Pickup

We will have our t-shirt/uniform pickup for our virtual students on Thursday, November 12, from 4:30-6:00pm .  Please line up in the main campus, main parking lot.  The orchestra room is directly past the flagpoles and I will be in front of the flagpoles ready for a quick drive-through pick up.  Please submit $10 in cash or check addressed to HHSOBC for the t-shirt, as well as any additional monies for any extra tees, sweaters, or sweatpants ordered.  The t-shirt is the orchestra uniform for informal performances and one has been ordered for every student, including virtual students.  The orchestra garments will be handled with nitrile gloves.  Please wear a mask during pick up.

All-Region & All-State

We’re thrilled to announce that several of our students have been selected for All-Region Orchestra.  These students were selected by competitive blind audition in TMEA Region 2, which includes students from Lewisville ISD, Denton ISD, and Northwest ISD.  Several of our students have recorded auditions for All-State, which will be judged next weekend.  Along with our 29 middle school All-Region students, the Hebron Orchestra feeder pattern has broken our previous record for All-Region selections, which was also set last year. Congratulations to our All-Region students!
