Dear Future Hawks,
We are so excited to welcome you to Hebron next year! I get to enjoy teaching my favorite subject every day, but some of the benefits of music and orchestra are not so obvious. Many of our orchestra students reported enjoying orchestra for playing music with friends, our thrilling concerts, or incredible trips. These are great reasons to be in orchestra! Additionally there are a wealth of benefits from playing in orchestra that happen as we work together to learn the music and perform it for friends and family. Parents, you may be thinking ahead to their future even beyond high school. LISD’s vision is for all of our students to enjoy thriving, productive lives in a future they create. Music supports their ability to navigate the challenges of the future.
Many orchestra students participate in multiple school activities and challenging courses. Our orchestra members participate in football, volleyball, tennis, basketball, swim, theatre, choir, DECA, wrestling, and more. If you are anticipating a schedule conflict, our counselors are amazing at helping you find a way for you to still partcipate in orchestra. Please contact me or your counselor if you would like assistance with exploring your schedule options.
Concert Orchestra is recommended for ALL 9th graders, including advanced players. This class is designed to assist with the next level of high school. Concert Orchestra performs challenging music and has had several students selected to the All-Region High School Orchestras. If you are interested in auditioning for a higher level of orchestra, we will have an audition process beginning in April. If your student is selected to a higher level of orchestra, their school counselor will adjust their schedule.

Thank you in advance for helping us have a fun and safe concert by observing the following CDC and LISD guidelines:
Each performer may have up to two guests at the concert.
The seats in the audience are marked with pink and green dots on the backs.
Available seats are marked as singles or pairs – pairs must live in the same household.All guests and performers must wear a mask while on campus.
Park/drop off in the Auditorium parking lot off Plano Parkway.
Call time for performers is 6:30pm.

Concert will start promptly at 7:00pm and is scheduled to conclude by 7:40pm.
Please maintain social distancing before and after the concert. Unfortunately there will not be a reception following the concert.

Solid color button up dress shirt or blouse (no polos)
Dress pants or full length dress skirt or dress
Dress tie; full length dress socks (must go past calves)
Dress shoes – heels 2.5 inches or less (no sneakers)
Suit jacket not required but encouraged
Tasteful winter accessories encouraged

holiday tie or socks
understated jewelry – jewelry should be inaudible and not disrupt the player’s ability to perform on the instrument.

November Update
| Dear Hawks, The challenges we’re facing might make Thanksgiving more important than ever this year. I asked the students what they’re thankful for, and by far the number one response was that they are thankful for their family. Perhaps fitting to the times, students also wrote just “living” and “being alive”. “I am thankful for the opportunity to still be a part of virtual learning during this pandemic. Some people are unable to be in school during this time since they don’t have the technology for virtual learning so I am thankful to be able to still learn, be a part of orchestra, and play basketball during this time.” “practically everything: my family, friends, life, food, that I have a roof over my head, etc!” “Anyone who has ever positively interacted with me because it has shaped who I am today.” Class Performances It’s a learning process. In a typical year our orchestra produces and performs several major concerts and learns fifty or more unique pieces of repertoire. As a necessary adjustment this year our learning paths have moved toward more guided individual learning, allowing our students to explore some of their personal musical interests while also developing their musical and technical skills. As I’ve mentioned to the classes, it’s been a learning process for me also. I’m pleased to share with you some videos we’ve made in class. We will continue to develop our musical abilities, but in addition to this I am excited to learn alongside the students more about recording and filming the orchestra, and editing the videos. Please line up in the main campus, main parking lot. The orchestra room is directly past the flagpoles and I will be in front of the flagpoles ready for a quick drive-through pick up. Please submit $10 in cash or check addressed to HHSOBC for the t-shirt, as well as any additional monies for any extra tees, sweaters, or sweatpants ordered. The t-shirt is the orchestra uniform for informal performances and one has been ordered for every student, including virtual students. The orchestra garments will be handled with nitrile gloves. Please wear a mask during pick up. All-Region & All-State We’re thrilled to announce that several of our students have been selected for All-Region Orchestra. These students were selected by competitive blind audition in TMEA Region 2, which includes students from Lewisville ISD, Denton ISD, and Northwest ISD. Several of our students have recorded auditions for All-State, which will be judged next weekend. Along with our 29 middle school All-Region students, the Hebron Orchestra feeder pattern has broken our previous record for All-Region selections, which was also set last year. Congratulations to our All-Region students! I’m grateful for the music we’ve made in the past and music that is still yet to come. Thank you all for your support of the orchestra. I asked the students when the holiday season starts, to a wide variety of responses. We’ve already started on the holiday music so we hope to share it with you all soon. The orchestra is thrilled to offer our new orchestra apparel! “The Last Stringbenders” will be our informal uniform for the 2020-2021 school year. Our Champion brand Hebron Orchestra Sweater and Sweatpants set is new this year and perfect for staying warm at home as you log in to Webex. Orchestra apparel is imprinted locally on top of the line fabric and available in limited edition only.
Your student’s t-shirt size has been taken in the latest class form. Please submit $10 per t-shirt with checks addressed to Hebron Orchestra Booster Club. The pre-order form is available for extra t-shirts, family shirts, as well as the sweater and sweatpants set.
