2nd 9 Weeks

Dear Hawks,

It was so fun to welcome our Future Hawks to Hebron for our biggest orchestra concert ever!  Hope you caught a t-shirt. 👕🙌. Thank you all for your support as our program has grown to 500+ orchestra members between our four middle school and high school campuses.  As we approach the physical capacity of our facilities we may experiment with our concert formats.  No matter what we do we can’t wait to share music and learning with you all.  Next we turn to our focus to our Winter Concert on December 8.  We have several events in the meantime.

All-Region

Fifteen Hebron Orchestra members were selected to the All-Region Orchestra festival in December by competitive blind audition.  Congratulations to the following students: Jenny!  Esther! Annika! Mady! Kenny! Evan! Olivia! Thomas! Danica! Allen! Vikram! Caleb! Ashley! Daniel Abraham! and Jordyn! It is an individual journey to even prepare the audition music, which includes technical demands far beyond the expectations of the orchestra class.  We are proud of all who challenged themselves to work on this music and audition.

Next up, several of our All-Region students will be taping for All-State on Saturday.  Additionally dozens of our middle school students will be auditioning for their chance to be selected to the All-Region festival in December.  Good luck/break a leg to all of our students recording or auditioning on Saturday!

Fall Picnic

Our fall picnic will be Saturday, November 5 at Oak Hills Park from noon to 3:00pm.  We will have picnic food & drinks, and the student leadership team will have several activities for everyone to participate in. Please take a moment to fill out this Sign Up Genius for what your student can bring to the picnic:

Gift Galleria

Our Chamber Orchestra has combined into small chamber groups to play at the Silver Wings’ annual Gift Galleria.  December 3 from 9:00am-4:00pm at Hebron 9.  Feel free to shop around for some gifts and enjoy some holiday music from the orchestra and choir.

Private Lessons

Please fill out the following form to sign your student up for private lessons:

https://forms.gle/SoAKrKMyYjwUcV5K8

Private lessons are an essential component of musical and instrumental development.  Typically a private teacher will give your student an individual lesson in a private lesson room during class.  This allows for individual, focused attention to the needs of the student, allowing for them to learn the most advanced solo material, leading to the strongest and most consistent progress as a musician and musical athlete.  Lessons also give your student the greatest chance at higher musical achievement, such as placement in the All-Region Orchestra, and/or high achievement at the Solo & Ensemble Festival.

Some of the advantages of taking private lessons are:

Individualized instruction and attention to the specific needs of the student.

Unique solo music not available in class.

Unique music skills not available in class.

Advanced repertoire for Solo & Ensemble festivals.

Advanced skill and repertoire for All-Region and All-State auditions.

Our lesson teachers are highly qualified and experienced.  In addition to teaching, they regularly perform as professional musicians throughout the metroplex and beyond.  Their schedules may be extremely limited so lessons will be arranged on a first come/first served basis.  Private lesson scholarships are also available to students who are interested and qualified.

Lessons are highly encouraged for all members of the orchestra.  Our focus with the Hebron Orchestra is individual progress combined with team achievement.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions about our private lesson program.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all at our events next week!  Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can help with anything.

Future Hawks Info!

Dear Future Hawks,

We are so excited to welcome you to Hebron next year! I get to enjoy teaching my favorite subject every day, but some of the benefits of music and orchestra are not so obvious. Many of our orchestra students reported enjoying orchestra for playing music with friends, our thrilling concerts, or incredible trips. These are great reasons to be in orchestra! Additionally there are a wealth of benefits from playing in orchestra that happen as we work together to learn the music and perform it for friends and family. Parents, you may be thinking ahead to their future even beyond high school. LISD’s vision is for all of our students to enjoy thriving, productive lives in a future they create. Music supports their ability to navigate the challenges of the future.

Many orchestra students participate in multiple school activities and challenging courses. Our orchestra members participate in football, volleyball, tennis, basketball, swim, theatre, choir, DECA, wrestling, and more. If you are anticipating a schedule conflict, our counselors are amazing at helping you find a way for you to still partcipate in orchestra. Please contact me or your counselor if you would like assistance with exploring your schedule options.

Concert Orchestra is recommended for ALL 9th graders, including advanced players. This class is designed to assist with the next level of high school. Concert Orchestra performs challenging music and has had several students selected to the All-Region High School Orchestras. If you are interested in auditioning for a higher level of orchestra, we will have an audition process beginning in April. If your student is selected to a higher level of orchestra, their school counselor will adjust their schedule.

Visit us at hebronorchestra.org for a special welcome video, and please contact us with any questions. We can’t wait for you to be a member of the Hebron Orchestra!
